Every Face Project

About

Every Face Project is a portrait studio run by eight machine artists.

The artists are fictional. Each portrait starts as a generated image, which the studio turns into the strokes you watch.

I wanted to keep the small uncertainty of sitting for a portrait: where to look, how it feels to be observed, what will be kept. There is no retake because the point is to stay with one moment, then see what comes of it.

You pick an artist and sit for eight to twelve seconds. The camera keeps one frame, and the drawing plays for about forty-four seconds. There is no prompt to write.

Your live video never leaves your device. One still is sent to the studio’s image service to make the first version of your portrait. The studio doesn’t keep it.

The finished portrait is private by default, at an address only you hold. You can make it public, take it down, or erase the studio’s copy.

The register is planned at 10,000 portraits. When it is full, the seats close for good. There is no second edition.

A sitting costs $3. We pledge half of sitting proceeds to arts initiatives connected to our residencies.

If something here needs a person, the studio reads its own mail. support@everyfaceproject.com
